From Bergville to beyond: inspiring students to envision their potential
Since 2003, BCB has proudly served the Bergville area, dedicated to empowering young learners and supporting education in rural communities. Founded and operated by professionals who grew up here, we work to motivate and guide high school students, helping them build dreams and navigate pathways to tertiary education. Our programs include career guidance, life skills workshops, and support for both learners and educators. Through initiatives like our adopt-a-school program and monthly teacher workshops, we’re committed to creating a brighter future for Bergville’s youth. Career Guidance Workshops:
BCB has hosted 22 annual career guidance workshops since its inception with exponential increase in participation of schools each year.
Focused Tutoring Project:
Developed a tutoring model where trained students mentor peers in Maths and Science.
Eskom Partnership:
Partnered with Eskom Hydro Pumped Storage Scheme in arranging schools’ visits to their power station every year.
Infrastructure Improvement:
Coordinated sponsorship for the construction of modern ablution facilities at Ubulinga Secondary School to improve the school’s infrastructure and enhance the quality of education and hygiene for students.
BCB advocated and spearheaded a successful campaign for Dept of Education (KZN) to build additional classes for Myendane Primary School which had only 2 classrooms for Grades 1 to 4 plus Principal’s office.
Study Material Sponsorship:
Sponsored study guides for Grade 12 Mathematics and Physical Science learners to assist with their home study during the Covid-19 lockdown, ensuring they have the necessary resources to prepare for their exams despite the challenges posed by the pandemic.
Maths & Science Tutoring Program:
Supported high school learners in Maths and Science with monthly tutoring from Wits University students and local educators.
Eskom Sponsorship:
Sponsored top students from 34 high schools to attend tutoring sessions, who then shared knowledge with classmates.
Career Guidance Events:
Held annual events where professionals advised learners on career paths, tertiary education requirements, and financial aid options.
Educator Development:
Provided training for Maths and Science teachers to improve teaching quality and build peer support networks.
Recognition and Awards:
Organized an award ceremony for top learners and educators, with tests to assess readiness for matric exams.
Enhanced Communication:
Improved outreach through bulk SMS updates for teachers and principals to address early communication challenges.
Launched Top 10 Schools Program:
Focused on supporting the entire school to maximize results through the development of schools’ strategic visions, networking, infrastructural support, and on-point initiatives.

Ongoing National Science Awareness Week workshops benefiting 36 Bergville high schools.(2008-2011)
Engagement with Government:
Met with Deputy President Ms. P. Mlambo-Ngcuka to advocate for support in addressing the educational needs of Bergville schools, aiming to increase their visibility and access to resources.
National Science Awareness Week:
Brought National Science Awareness Week (May 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011) workshops And exhibition in conjunction with Medical Research Council (MRC), Eskom, South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE), University of Johannesburg, Wits University, Mangosuthu Technikon, KZN Wildlife and Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) in the Bergville area for the 36 x Bergville high schools.

Initiated a pilot tutoring project for Maths and Science, targeting Grade 11 and 12 learners across 8 schools, using unemployed technical graduates as tutors to enhance academic performance in these subjects.

Secured sponsorship of 18 computers from the Sangari Group, which organizes international F1 competitions for schools, allowing Bergville schools to participate and gain exposure to technology and competitive science education.

Established ongoing monthly support workshops for Maths and Science teachers in Bergville, facilitated by the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers and Wits University, to improve teaching methods and subject knowledge.
Focused Group Tutoring Project:
Launched a rigorous tutoring initiative for 5 selected learners per school, who receive concentrated instruction in Maths and Science and are then expected to return to their schools to teach their peers, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
Science Workshop Sponsorship:
Secured sponsorship for an OSEA representative to attend a TISP science workshop in Cape Town, sponsored by SAIEE (September 4-5).
Operational Support Funding:
Obtained R2,500 sponsorship from Soso for OSEA office operations (June).
School Visits:
Organized for Amangwane High School students to visit Sasol plants in Secunda and Moloko IT company in Johannesburg.
